Textile Tourism in sambalpur.

In India every State have its very own personality and version of the six yard ethnic – the sari. And this saree Woven with threads of gold, or cotton, or traditional motifs are weaved by our great   artisans or weavers and give the saree a stunning avatars.


Our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi made the sambalpuri sarees famous all over world, the saree is made in several handloom group or soceity in Orissa. Specially  Sambalpuri saree weaved in Bargarh, Boudh and Balangir. This is called Ikkat or Sambalpuri ikkat , It have a beautiful technique where the yarn threads are tied and dyed before the weaving process begins. That's way it makes the Sambalpuri saree so unique.




A beautiful tourist attraction in Sambalpur is Hirakud Dam, which is the world’s largest earthen dam and Asia’s largest dam. This dam water is used for irrigation and production of hydroelectric power, and it attract many tourists for it being the largest man made artificial lake in Asia. It has been constructed on the Mahanadi river between the Gandhi Minar in North and the Nehru Minar in the South which connects these two well known hills.
