Types of sambalpuri handwoven sarees of odisha.

Sambalpuri Saree names come from the Sambalpur region. Sambalpur is in the state of Odisha(India). These Handwoven Traditional sarees are made of Bhulia(weaver) family from Attabira, Bargarh, Barpali, sonepur, Padampur and many areas. These weaving sarees are traditionally handwoven which made in the process of tie and dye. This tie and dye saree is known as ikat or baandha. In this saree, they weaved various types of animals, birds, shell, wheel, flower and various designs. These saree comes in both silk and cotton. While Silk saree wears in any festival, wedding day and in any party type occasions.

Types of Sambalpuri sarees:

Bapta Sarees: It is a type of sambalpuri saree which is a mix of cotton and silk weaving.Golden colored threads are normally found in bapta sarees which gives the saree a unique look.

Barpalli Sarees: This saree specially made in a small city of western Odisha named Barpali.

Bomkai or Sonepuri Sarees: These are the pure handwoven sarees which weaved in sonepur and this saree have an attractive pallu and border design.

Pasapalli Sarees: Pasa means one type of game like a chess board. Traditionally the colors of pasa are white- red or white black squares with contrast designs.
